In the wet

rainforest_one

There’s a reason for the word ‘rain’ in rainforest.  The rainforest is brilliant in sunshine – but absolutely haunting in the rain, when mist is shrouding the towering cliffs above. As it moves, the mist adds an air of mystery and confounds your sense of distance.

The rainforest seems more alive.  Native birds become more active, more vocal.  Colours change.

The rain heightens your senses of smell and hearing.  Everything smells fresher and at the same time ancient.  You become more aware of raindrops pattering on leaves; or the sounds of hidden waterfalls and running streams.

So, if rainforest is what you came to experience, don’t let a little ‘weather’ stop you.

Scenic World is situated on the escarpment of the Jamison Valley at Katoomba, roughly 940 metres above sea level.  The mountain climate being what it is, the weather can change very quickly from sun to rain – and back again.  If you’re lucky, you might get a chance to see it in both mist and sunshine!

And just because it’s cloudy or misty at the top doesn’t mean it will be in the rainforest.

In the wet, our 2.8 kilometre elevated boardwalk – the Scenic Walkway – still allows you to view the rainforest and its inhabitants in safety and comfort.
