New Era for an Old Favourite
Walk through the front door of Mount Vic Flicks and it’s like stepping back into movie-going history.
For those of us that can remember, and for those that can imagine, it’s “Cinema the way it used to be”.
The lovely old building which houses the cinema was built in the 1930’s as a Public Hall, has recently been taken over by new owners Kirsten Mulholland and Adam Cousins.
Previous owners Ron and Diane Bayley retired last year after 25 years of building the cinema into a much-loved icon of the upper Mountains, and were very happy to hand over the reins to Kirsten and Adam and their two young children, Charlie and Finn. Ron and Diane were around the same age as Kirsten and Adam when they began Mount Vic Flicks and are thrilled to be succeeded by people who will love the cinema the way they did.
Kirsten used to visit the cinema with her friends and has always had an interest in film so the idea of running the cinema is now a dream come true. Upon hearing Mount Vic Flicks was up for sale, Kirsten and her husband decided to jump at the chance and after opening on 21st September 2013, are now having a ball continuing to welcome regulars and newcomers to a night (or day) at the flicks!
Ron and Diane were known for their program of a mixture of arthouse, classic and new release films and Kirsten and Adam will keep up this tradition, much to the delight of locals. They also plan to screen children’s movies and themed events such as one for Alec Guinness’ 100th birthday in April.
To add to this delightful cinematic experience, grab something from the candy bar, with a yummy selection of choc tops, scones with jam & cream, slices, tea and coffee and even soup!
Locals and visitors are thrilled that the tradition of Mt Vic Flicks continues and will be lining up for tickets for many years to come…
