Accessible experiences

Everyone is welcome at Scenic World. Whether you want to immerse yourself in the lush rainforest, ride on a cable car between cliff tops or up close to the sandstone escarpment, or all of the above, there are plenty of ways to have a fun, accessible experience when you visit.

Good to know

  • bulletThe natural layout of our site means we cannot make some distances shorter or more accessible, such as the distance from the carpark to our main entry (accessible with a wheelchair) or between ride platforms (Skyway and Cableway are accessible with a wheelchair).
  • bulletAccessible carparking spots are out the front of the main building and in the bus park.
  • bulletEnter via the main entrance - there are automatic doors and a ramp to the ticket box.
  • bulletA lift is available on all levels of the main building.
  • bulletWe have several dedicated accessible toilets.
  • bulletWe have limited seats on the Cableway, Skyway and along the 10-minute boardwalk.
  • bulletThe cafe and restaurant are accessible via the lift.
  • bulletWe accept companion cards. Entry is free for a registered caregiver accompanying a guest with accessibility needs.
  • bulletWe welcome guide, hearing and assistance dogs.
  • bulletWe are proud members of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network.

Events

  • bulletWhen Dinosaur Valley is on, the rainforest part (in the valley) is not wheelchair accessible. There still are roaring dinosaurs to discover around the main building.

Have a wheelchair or mobility aid?

You can:
  • bulletRide the Southern Hemisphere's steepest cable car (the Scenic Cableway). Travel in and out of the Jamison Valley and rainforest, and alongside the sandstone escarpment.
  • bulletImmerse yourself in the rainforest along a wheel-chair accessible boardwalk (the Scenic Walkway). One way is 500 m. Our longer boardwalks are not wheelchair accessible due to instances of steep slopes and multiple, narrow stairs.
  • bulletTravel between the clifftops on the Scenic Skyway, 270m above the rainforest and view the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls and Orphan Rock.

  • bulletAll guests are required to exit the rides at each station every trip.
  • bulletThe Scenic Railway has specific accessibility requirements - see below.

Can I ride the Railway?

The Scenic Railway travels at a 52° incline and bears low to moderate demand on the body for the duration of the ride (around three minutes). 

For safety reasons, to be able to ride the Railway you must:

  • bulletMaintain your position by bracing with your legs or arms and repositioning throughout the ride to maintain an upright position.
  • bulletBe able to embark and disembark the Railway (via 22 ascending and descending stairs) independently or with minimal assistance from a member of your party. Our team cannot assist with lifting or moving guests.

Please note:

  • bulletWhere assistance is required, the carer must remain with the assisted passenger for the duration of the ride.
  • bulletWheelchairs and mobility aids (except for walking sticks) are not permitted on the Railway.

Can I bring a service dog?

  • bulletYes! We welcome all guide, hearing and assistance dogs.
  • bulletService dogs can ride on the Skyway and Cableway.
  • bulletThey can accompany you in the rainforest along the boardwalk.
  • bulletAll service dogs must wear their harness and leash at all times and cannot be carried.
  • bulletHandlers may be asked for proof of Assistance Dogs training.
